ANDREW MACKAY

Head of Basketball

My main goal is to assist all who come into our program, either directly or indirectly, by developing our coaching staff and constantly improving how we deliver our training sessions. I will work with you to assist you in achieving your goals through various mediums such as on court workouts, film study, off court discussions and much more. Reach out to me to set up a time to get you started on your basketball path.

JOSHUA KOOIMAN

Basketball Coach

I grew up on the North Shore playing every sport under the sun at Primary and Intermediate School. Basketball became my passion at Westlake Boys, playing in the Prems team for 3 years, two of them under Coach Zac, and Captaining the team in Year 13. I am currently at AUT studying Sport & Rec, and coaching and training at 33 Gym & Hoops. I'm also a proud supporter of OKC, Chelsea FC and the Vodafone Warriors. I enjoy the process of getting better, always looking to improve my own game, and through coaching others help them improve theirs. My plan is to continue growing both as a player and a coach, working towards playing and eventually coaching at NBL level and beyond. I currently assist with our Hoop33 Player Academy, and am available for private coaching.

CAIN NUTTAL

Basketball Coach

I’m from Auckland, attended Westlake Boys High School, and am currently in my final year at AUT studying Sport and Recreation with a Major in Coaching. I like waterskiing and snowboarding whenever I can and have free time off basketball. I love traveling and sightseeing around NZ and the world. The reason I am passionate about coaching athletes is being a part of the journey and the grind, and finally seeing them achieve goals. I believe the coach-player relationship is the most important thing when it comes to development. I have experience in applied performance analysis and am able to help athletes find strengths and weaknesses within their game. I can help you achieve your goals by being fully invested in your development as a basketball player and human being.

ELIAS QAHERI

Basketball Coach

I was born in Auckland, but grew up in Bahrain and Kuwait. I consider basketball my passion and my life. I started going to my cousin's training and games from the young age of 5yrs, and started playing when I was 6yrs old. I have played for 14yrs representing the Bahrain National Team for U15 and U17. When I graduated from school, I decided to pursue one of my dreams of being a Basketball Coach. While in Bahrain I coached at a local club for the U11, U13 and U15 age groups, and I worked as an assistant coach for U17s until I moved to Auckland to start my university studies at AUT. Regarding developing and helping players to reach their potential, I focus on many aspects such as building a plan for the player and the session, focusing on weaknesses and watching his/her game and performance.

CALEB CHAPMAN

Basketball Coach

I was born in Auckland, but raised in Orlando Florida and Los Angeles California for 10 years in total. I am a Sport & Rec (Coaching) and Business (Management) student at AUT. In 2016 I found a home within the game of basketball. It has been a tool which has helped me develop as a person, and I simply wish to share that growth with others. I play and teach basketball for the love of the game, and for the sake of the community. I am interested in helping people of all skill levels to develop their game, and thus I offer personalised player development coaching sessions.

RIELY BONAR

Basketball Coach

I’m from the Hibiscus Coast and currently studying Sport and Recreation at AUT. I am also coaching the Orewa College Premier Team and coach at Hibiscus Coast Basketball. I've always loved to compete in basketball and someday I want to play at the highest level I can possibly get to in my life, so I'm very keen to put all the hours I can into basketball training and the weight room to make that happen. I got into coaching because I love the game of basketball and I’m passionate about helping people get better to succeed in what they love also. I hope to use my time at 33 to gain knowledge and experience in the best ways to coach a high-level team in terms of culture, training, in-game situations, and how I can improve players' mental game. To see the teams I am coaching succeed is all I want!

LIAM JACKSON

Basketball Coach

I was born and bred on Auckland's North Shore, attending Westlake Boys high school until 2018 and graduating from AUT with a Bachelor of Sport & Rec (Sport & Exercise Science) in 2021. In my free time I like to train in the weight-room, travel and explore scenic places, go swimming, draw, and watch the NFL. I got into sport and exercise once I left high school, as I had developed a passion for helping others improve their abilities in strength training. I have always found that exercise can boost one in so many ways, such as self-confidence, stress-release, positivity, motivation and strength. I am passionate about inspiring others to do exercise, building confidence and positive relationships with other people, and developing training programs for all individuals. I started off as a student basketball coach at high school and have worked my way up to leading and developing teams at the representative level. I love to see athletes develop and progress in their personal skills both on and off the court. I will build plans to focus on improving an athlete's weaknesses and strengths so they will see improvement in their performance. In life you have to experience failure and be determined to chase success! I am set to become the new Head Coach of the Long Bay college senior prems team. I hope to get the opportunity to reach my goals of going overseas to coach basketball professionally, either in Australia or the United States. I am available for private coaching.
